What I am making will be a skirmishable gun, its basicaly a VSR that looks like a ww2 German sniper rifle, keep watching the thread & you will see the finished gun in a week or so, the plus points of the conversion are no shells to loose, more power, more shots in the magazine, 20+ or 55 rounds compared to 5 in shells on the standard one, anyone who skirmishes a standard gun will need a metal detector to find their shells

Its near enough finished now, just needs filler puting round the rear sight & sanding down & a blow over with matt black paint, I had to swap the spring out as it chronoed at 579fps & was hard to cock, its now on a lighter spring around 440 fps,

More pics,

Middle fixing point, the screw passes through the magazine baseplate & through this metal bracket into the reciever to stop the action moving backwards, total bulid time about 7 hours,

Hole drilled in outer barrel & threaded to secure handguard:

Handguard fixed with screw:

underside, the phillips screw holds the action in the gun, the action is held in also with a screw through the trigger guard & a screw at the front fixing point, its rock solid:

Sgt Heide's Mp-001 conversions are the best, they use real K98 stocks & some real K98 parts,

Nice work there WoW, would be interested seeing a post on how to replace the barrel and the spring. There are some 8mm Mauser brass available on the link below, not sure if its what you need? :)

Amazing review and guide, WoW - looks like we have a very agreeable addition to the forum knowledge base.

On that, anyone needs to know about hearing aids, drinking yourself into a stupor or being an emotional cripple, I've got it sorted.

Thread necromancing I know but thought it best to search than start a new topic.
As I still consider myself new to WWII airsoft & I'm still playing catchup with most of you regs here. I did however buy one of these Dboys Rifles today, with a real wood stock an handguard for very little money. Would I be correct in thinking that my next best move is to get a JG Bar 10 and swap the internals over to give me a winter skirmishable rifle?
Thanks for any advice Jim

Yup, if you want a genuinly skirmishable, all year rifle then thats defintly the way to go. I'd say its a medium difficulty project but so long as you are competent with general hand tools and a dremel and you take your time it should be no problem.

first stop if you haven't already,is to read the (now rather long) K98 springer conversion thread here:

viewtopic.php?f=13&t=1613&st=0&sk=t&sd=a

Also check the US WW2 airsoft boards as there are some great conversions by Ersatzjack and CharleyNovember detailed on there

My first conversion was using a Marushin gas Kar98k which is very similar to the Dboyi. if you want any help or advise, just ask :good:
I'm now currently 80% of the way through my second K98 conversion for which im using a Maruzen APS2 as the base gun (it was sat in the corner looking neglected  ) It's coming along nicely and I'll be posting some pic's up soon

If you are anything like me you will get huge pleasure and gratification from doing a custom gun and creating something unique! Best of luck with it. :good:

So don’t think I marched there for this reason – it could carry another name – but because there is a very important goal... this goal I wanted to take – and you know – we are very modest, we have it already."

It is on your perseverance, staunchness, fighting skill and readiness to discharge your duty to the country that the defeat of the German-fascist army and the liberation of the Soviet land from the Hitlerite invaders depend! We can and must clear the Soviet land of Hitlerite vermin."

i skirmished mine at husky "out of the box"

it chronos at 280 fps with .20 bb
and 200 fps with .30 bb

i did get a hit at 30 metres right where i aimed useing a .30 bb

the accuraccy is an issue over 20m, but using it in the ferns, camoflaged well, i was getting hits, VERY quietly, its a very quiet shot, and if you work the bolt slowly you can get of two or 3 "hits" before your seen

i found the gun a joy to use, hard to get kills with, yes .
but it puts a real sense of fear into missing that first shot, as chances are you wont take another.

i also got a cartridge jammed in the breach in the middle of a fight, and after a frantic minuite of trying to clear it under fire , i had to use the broomhandle mauser as a backup.
a real hairy situation.

(the round cleared first pull after the contact, but thats sods law)

also the fear factor was good, twice i aimed at allied players, only to see them turn and run , as they thought i had a tanaka

its worth carrying for the fear factor alone :good:

to sum up ,i really liked this gun, dispite its many faults. its so cheap, its work a look

How many shells did you lose? I was impressed you did actually use it in battle - the fact you got some kills is even more impressive.

He's Joseph Porta, of course he got kills, I'm only surprised he didnt rob the corpses afterwards

Thanks I did read the thread, and that's what convinced me. I'm reassonably competent with hand tools and the guy that runs my regular site Tom Andrews has been an airsofter for ever and is very happy to help. I'm a decorator by trade an it will be an interesting challenge to see what I can get the stock to turn out like. Yup read the weathering threads but want to try my own method and see how that works. I will keep a photo record and post up results as I go along.
